Health and Safety Tips for Students Study Abroad

When one plans to go abroad for the purpose of studying he has to plan and work on different things in order to avoid any worries while being abroad as he has to face everything himself including studying and keeping himself safe and healthy. Every country has different environment and culture and before coming to the county you must read the information about the climate, culture, food etc. in order to stay safe during the course you must undergo the safety instructions informed by the counselor or the advisor. Following are the basic health and safety tips one should follow while being abroad:

General health safety

Before travelling get yourself vaccine of some of the illness and flues you think is common there. If you are travelling in the developing countries where the mosquitoes and malaria is common take anti malarial tablets in advance and follow your doctor’s advice. Get yourself a complete medical and dental check up as the treatment cost may not cover in your student health insurance.

Food safety                                           

Always prefer to eat full cooked food and avoid eating on the street sides and open area street food especially just after your arrival in the new environment. It takes quite some time to adjust in the new environment and settle your stomach to adapt the new kind of food.

Drinking water

Make sure the water you drink is safe for drinking to avoid diarrhea and other bacterial infections. Always buy that water bottles which are sealed and safely stored also try to avoid ice.

Personal first aid kit

In order to avoid any mental agony while getting ill keep a small first aid kit with yourself that includes sunscreen, bandages, insect repellant, adhesive tape, pain killers, anti diarrhea medicines, aspirin, and also your prescription if you are suffering from an old disease so that in case of emergency you can buy the medicines from the medical store there.

Travelling safety

While travelling daily from your home to your college you must learn the routes and keep the travel map with you in case if you lost you may be guided with the help of the map.

Avoid strangers and avoid talking unnecessary with the strangers and avoid asking the way from them preferably ask from the personal in uniform and on duty staff.

Keep yourself simple

Always wear the simple dresses and avoid wearing the costly jewelry, watches etc in order to avoid being catchy in the eyes of others.

Keep your belonging safe

Always keep small amount of cash in your wallet and keep an eye on your belongings i.e. mobile phones, laptop etc especially while travelling in the bus or train. Always keep your wallet or cards in your front pocket to avoid theft or robbery.

 keep all your important documents in safe place at the place you are staying, and avoid keeping them in your bag and for the safer side get the copies of all of your documents including your passport, educational certificates, degree so that in the case you lose them you have an extra copy.

Emergency contact number

Always keep an emergency contact number and address in your pocket so that they must be contacted in case you face any unseen and unwanted situation.
