IELTS Exam Pattern in Pakistan, All You Need to Know

Types Of IELTS

Generally, there are two types of IELTS exam and these are described below:

IELTS Academic: IELTS academic is for the candidates who want to move abroad for higher education purposes in the areas or countries of the English speaking environment. 

IELTS General: IELTS General is for the candidates who want to move in an English speaking country or environment for secondary education, employment, special training, and settlement purposes, etc.

The following is the complete IELTS exam pattern 2020 that every candidate must know before going to appear:

1.       Listening Module

It is one of the important modules of IELTS through which the listening skill of the candidates is assessed. The module consists of a total of 04 sections and each section carries equal marks, 10 marks. Candidates are offered 10 minutes to answer the given questions. The nature of the questions is objective. For example, candidates will be asked MCQs, short questions, fill in the blanks, labelling, diagrams or matching plans, etc.

2.       Reading Module    

The reading module consists of 03 sections and has 40 questions. Applicants are asked to complete each section within 20 minutes only. However, for all of the three sections, the candidates will be provided 60 minutes. Applicants are informed that the reading assignment will be given from newspapers, broachers, advertisements, books, magazines, and other related sorts of texts.

3.       Writing Module     

Candidates are asked to solve two sections of the writing module. The following is the detail of writing tasks:

Writing Task 1: Writing task 1 will be comprised of a specific topic (diagram, chart, graphs, and tables, etc.) and applicants have to cover the topic within 100 or 150 words. Applicants will be provided 20 minutes for task 1.

Writing Task 2: Writing task 2 is comprised of a point of view, an argument, or any other problem that the applicants have to cover through their opinions and arguments. Applicants have to cover task 2 within 250 words. Applicants will be provided 40 minutes to cover task 2.

4.       Speaking Module

Speaking module comprised of an oral interview or one to one conversation between applicants and examiners. The module is of 11 to 15 minutes and is generally consists of three sections and the following is the detail of these three sections:

Section 1: It comprised of general introduction, applicants have to give to the examiners. It takes 3 to 5 minutes.

Section 2: During task 2 applicants have to speak about a specific given topic. This section takes 2 to 3 minutes.

Section 3: It comprised of a dialogue with abstract issues. This part takes approximately 5 minutes.
