What Is the UfM Med Youth Lab 2026?

The UfM Med Youth Lab is an introductory programme designed for young people who have little or no previous experience in entrepreneurship. Rather than targeting experienced entrepreneurs or startup founders, the 2026 edition focuses on beginners who want to understand fundamental entrepreneurial concepts and develop transferable professional skills.

Participants will learn through expert-led sessions, teamwork, non-formal education, and practical activities. The programme is designed to help young people build confidence in areas such as innovation, communication, financial literacy, and problem-solving.

The programme also follows a Training of Trainers approach. Participants will receive support to design a simple introductory entrepreneurship awareness session that they can later share with peers in their communities during 2027. It is not a professional trainer certification; instead, participants will act as peer facilitators.

Financial Benefits

The UfM Med Youth Lab 2026 is free to apply for and participate in.

For nationals of selected UfM member states, the programme provides support for the costs associated with the in-person workshops in Palermo.

Benefits include:

  • Travel cost coverage for the in-person programme.
  • Accommodation in Palermo.
  • Visa-related expense support according to programme procedures.
  • Visa application documentation support.
  • Free online training.
  • Free access to programme materials.
  • Expert-led entrepreneurship sessions.
  • Practical teamwork and learning activities.
  • Opportunity to participate in an international youth programme.

It is important to note that full sponsorship for the Palermo component is nationality-specific. Applicants from other UfM member states may still be eligible to apply, but they must arrange their own funding for travel and participation in Palermo.

Who Can Apply?

The programme is intended for young university students and recent graduates.

Applicants must generally:

  • Be 18 to 29 years old at the time of application.
  • Be a national and resident of a Union for the Mediterranean Member State.
  • Currently be enrolled in a university programme or have graduated no more than one year before the application deadline.
  • Hold a valid travel document such as a passport.
  • Have at least B2-level English, or an equivalent ability to participate effectively.
  • Be available for both the online and in-person components.
  • Have limited or no previous knowledge and experience in entrepreneurship.

The programme specifically targets beginners. Applicants with significant entrepreneurship training, experience running or funding a startup, or professional experience with business-support organizations are not considered suitable for this introductory programme.

Eligible Countries for Full Sponsorship

Full sponsorship for the in-person programme is available to nationals of the following UfM member states:

  • Albania
  • Algeria
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Egypt
  • Jordan
  • Lebanon
  • Libya
  • Mauritania
  • Montenegro
  • Morocco
  • North Macedonia

Applicants from other UfM member states can still apply if they meet the programme requirements, but they must independently secure funding for their participation in Palermo.

Programme Activities

The UfM Med Youth Lab 2026 consists of three main components.

1. Online Training

The online component will run from October to December 2026. Participants will attend training sessions and develop foundational knowledge related to entrepreneurship and employability.

2. In-Person Workshops

Selected participants will travel to Palermo, Italy, for workshops from December 14 to 16, 2026. These activities will provide opportunities for direct interaction, teamwork, practical learning, and networking.

The workshops will take place alongside the UfM Employment Forum and the UfM workshop From Degrees to Ventures.

3. Follow-Up Activities

Following the programme, participants will work on sharing basic entrepreneurship knowledge with their peers during 2027. This peer-facilitation element is intended to extend the programme's impact beyond the selected participants.

Skills You Can Develop

The programme focuses on practical skills that can benefit students and recent graduates in academic and professional environments.

Key areas include:

  • Entrepreneurial thinking
  • Innovation
  • Financial literacy
  • Communication
  • Problem-solving
  • Teamwork
  • Peer learning
  • Employability skills
  • Community engagement

The programme is particularly suitable for students who want to explore entrepreneurship without needing to have a startup or previous business experience.

Required Documents

Important AI Application Requirement

Applicants should pay particular attention to the programme's originality requirement.

Therefore, applicants should use their own experiences, motivations, ideas, and wording when preparing their application and especially when recording the required motivation video.

Important Note for Pakistani Students

Pakistani students should carefully check the nationality requirements before applying.
