UN Nippon Foundation Training Program 2025 | Germany Fully Funded

Applications are now available for the UN Nippon Foundation Training Program 2025 in Germany. It's a fully funded 9-month training program in Hamburg, Germany. The program will run from 7 July 2025 to March 31, 2026. The goal of this program is to welcome candidates from impoverished countries who are working on issues connected to sea law, maritime law, or conflict resolution. The program seeks to build skills and deepen their knowledge of dispute settlement in sea law under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

There is no application fee, and the Nippon Foundation will pay all participant costs, including travel, accommodation, insurance, and stipend.

Eligibility Criteria

• The Fellowship is open to applicants from developing nations.
• Age: 25-40 years old.
• Education: A law degree and shown research ability.
• Professional: Junior to mid-level government officials (ocean affairs/maritime law) or researchers (ocean/maritime legal concerns).
• Study Proposal: The researcher must suggest a study topic related to their state's UNCLOS implementation (particularly Part XV).
• Nomination: The nominating entity must describe the applicant's responsibilities and how training will help the institution or state.
• Language Proficiency: Excellent command of English or French, with working knowledge of the other. English is the main language of instruction.
