The AI Ethics Fellowship 2026 in Africa is an exciting professional development program designed for mid‑career experts passionate about ethical artificial intelligence, digital governance, and public policy. Hosted by Code for Africa through the Digitalise Youth consortium, this fellowship offers participants the chance to advance their careers while contributing to responsible AI adoption across governance and civic tech sectors in Africa.
This fellowship invites talented professionals to develop research and policy frameworks that ensure AI tools are used ethically and responsibly. Fellows will analyze regional and global AI standards, create policy recommendations, and contribute practical strategies to support inclusive and ethical AI governance throughout the continent.

To qualify for the fellowship, applicants should demonstrate:
🔹 Policy Expertise – Experience in drafting or reviewing digital governance, regulation, or compliance frameworks.
🔹 Understanding of AI Ethics – Familiarity with ethical issues related to artificial intelligence and technology adoption.
🔹 Experience in Governance or Advocacy – Prior involvement in policy, civil society, or rights‑based initiatives.
🔹 Cultural & Regional Sensitivity – Awareness of socio‑cultural impacts of AI and commitment to serving African communities.
🔹 Multilingual Skills – Fluency in English, French, or Arabic is an advantage.
Applications are especially encouraged from professionals based in countries such as Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad, Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, and other Sahel & neighboring nations.
The AI Ethics Fellowship 2026 runs for three months, during which participants will conduct research, engage in policy development, and collaborate with regional partners. The work is primarily remote, allowing fellows to contribute from their home countries while receiving technical and mentorship support.
