Applications are now open for the fully funded doctoral scholarships offered by the Berlin Graduate School of Ancient Studies (BerGSAS) in collaboration with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) through the DAAD Graduate School Scholarship Programme (GSSP) for the academic year 2026. This prestigious opportunity enables international scholars, including those from Pakistan, to conduct doctoral research in Germany with complete financial support.

Financial Benefits

Successful PhD candidates will receive full financial support through the DAAD GSSP scholarship, which offers the following benefits:

• Monthly stipend: €1,300
• Health, accident, and personal liability coverage
• Travel Allowance to and from Germany
• Annual research allowance: €1,000
• Optional rent subsidies and family allowances.
• Free intensive German language course (before the PhD starts)
• Research stay abroad funding (up to 25% of the program duration)

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, you need to:

• Have a Master's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field completed after March 1, 2020.
• Not residing in Germany for more than 15 months before December 1, 2024.
• Not have a prior PhD degree.
• Demonstrate English language proficiency (minimum level B2; level C1 preferred).
• Please provide two academic reference letters (using the DAAD template).
• Submit a thorough research proposal that aligns with one of the BerGSAS programs.
