British Council UK 90th Anniversary Fellowship 2026 | Fully Funded Research Opportunity

Are you a fresh researcher looking into international development, peacebuilding, or cultural relations? The British Council and the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) of the University of Edinburgh are providing the 90th Anniversary Research Fellowship for 2026, which is fully financed.
This is an excellent opportunity for scholars from certain countries to spend a year in the UK, do multidisciplinary research, and collaborate with leading academics, all while sharing knowledge on a global scale.

About the Fellowship

To mark its 90th anniversary, the British Council is supporting two promising early-career academics from countries eligible for Official Development Assistance (ODA). The purpose is to strengthen cultural and educational ties between the UK and other countries through valuable research.

Scholarship Details

What’s Covered?

This fellowship covers all the main costs:

• £2,500 a month for living expenses
• Round-trip travel costs
• Office space and library access at IASH
• Academic guidance and support
• Networking lunches and seminars
• Possible visits to British Council offices

Who Should Apply?

This opportunity is ideal for scholars who:

• Are citizens of an ODA-eligible nation such as Pakistan, Nigeria, India, or Bangladesh.
• Obtained their PhD between 2018 and 2025.
• Have no permanent academic job

• Have not previously held an IASH Fellowship
• Have limited study experience in the UK or other non-ODA countries.
