Chinese Government Awarded 1,000 Scholarships to Pakistani Students in 2018-2019

The friendship shared between Pakistan and China has entered into a new phase with CPEC project. The CPEC project has positively enhanced in several fields including education in Pakistan. The Chinese universities are regarded as world best universities. China is popular destination for foreign students including Pakistan. Last year, Chinese government provided 7,000 scholarships to Pakistani students and this year, the number rose to 1,000 Pakistani students attending scholarship progammes in China. The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) China is financing the scholarships awarded to Pakistani students. The Chinese Government is quite generous for foreign students, the statistics records show that from years 2009 to 2016, around 442,773 foreign students were studying in China, of whom around 49,022 were, rewarded a scholarship totally funded by the Chinese government. Pakistan is at top of the list in terms of maximum number of foreign students studying in China. Students from Thailand, India, South Korea and United States are also in large numbers who are currently attending different courses in China. According to NEW YORK TIMES, the numbers of students in China have increased hugely in last 20 years. There were only 3.4 million students enrolled in Chinese universities back then. Now, the numbers of overseas students enrolled in China are around 490,000. Chinese Government is aiming to receive 500,000 foreign students by the year 2020. Iris Yuan , who is director of international affairs at The Sino-British college said that, “China wants to be seen as a major player internationally in terms of higher education. The government wants to boost the internationalization for our universities as part of a ‘soft power’ policy to project China internationally.”. China has not only upgraded its higher education standards, it also has smartly  planned a very attractive education fee structure. Students studying in UK and USA are paying much more tuition fee than those studying in China, which is the key factor this increasing rate in number of foreign students. According to Iris yuan , “Most of universities in China are offering a good number of English taught programmes now and he number of English taught programmes has increased by 63% in the last five years. The visa guide system is easy for foreign students in China.
