Eligibility Criteria

• PhD awarded within two years prior to the application deadline.
• At least one accepted first-author publication.
• Applicants must relocate to a host lab in another nation (mobility rule).
• No previous long-term research activity in the host lab (greater than 6 months).

Fellowship Benefits

• Financial Support: The EMBO Postdoctoral Fellowship offers full financial support tailored to the host country. In EMBC member states, fellows receive a salary through an employment contract that includes social security and tax coverage. In non-EMBC countries, a monthly stipend is provided based on local living costs. Fellows also receive a one-time relocation and travel allowance, which can cover accompanying family members.
• Family Support: To support researchers with families, the fellowship includes a childcare allowance of up to €2,500 per year for children under six (in non-EMBC countries) and an annual child allowance for dependents under 18. Parental leave of up to three months is fully paid, and the fellowship duration is extended accordingly.
• Work Flexibility: Fellows have the option to work part-time at 50% or 75%, with the possibility of extending the fellowship up to 36 months. Career breaks are also supported for valid reasons such as illness or parental responsibilities.
• Professional Development: In addition to financial and personal support, EMBO offers professional development opportunities, including free leadership training courses, membership in the EMBO Fellows’ Network, and access to fellows' meetings and career development events.
