The Royal Society APEX Awards 2026 is open to researchers who have an original idea that combines science, engineering, humanities, or social sciences. If selected, you will receive funding for cross-subject projects in the UK that have a large impact.

Award Details

Eligibility Criteria

• Applicants should be established, independent researchers.
• They need a permanent or long-term academic job at a UK institution.
• Applicants also need teaching or administrative work that takes up at least 25% of their contract.
• Applications must have a co-applicant from a different academic area that fits within the guidelines of the three Academies.

Funding and Benefits

• Each grant can be as high as £200,000.
• Up to £10,000 is available for activities that engage the public.

• Funding may be used for:
  • Salary costs, like replacing teaching or administrative duties, paying research staff, and supporting PhD students.
  • Research expenses should not exceed 25% of the total budget.
  • Public engagement events or materials.
