The education system of Malaysia is very simple and specially designed for students comfort. In this study system higher education systems make it possible to transfer high quality knowledge in very easy way. It makes complicated subjects easy to understand for students. Mostly higher education is research and practical based which help students to get through with subject comprehensively. Following study programs are offered to students by higher education institutions of Malaysia.

There are two types of pre-university qualifications, external qualifications and internal qualifications. External qualification certificates are issued by external schools, academies of other countries. Internal qualification certificate are issued by individual private colleges or universities of Malaysia.

Malaysia universities fees are different from one university to other university. Cost of study in Malaysia for international students is less than European countries. And Malaysia public university fees are less than private universities. Students who wish to take certificate of GCE "A" Level from UK are required to pay US $ 4,690 to US $ 7,810 for the period of 15 to 18 months. Students who wish to take certificate of South Australian Matriculation from Australia are required to pay US $ 6,560 to US $ 7,810 for the period of 10 months.

Students who wish to take certificate of Western Australian Matriculation from Australia are required to pay US $ 3,440 to US $ 6,560 10 months. Students who wish to take certificate of Canadian Pre-U from Canada are required to pay US $ 5,940 to US $ 9,010 2 months. Students who wish to take certificate of University of New South Wales from Australia are required to pay US $ 4,375 to US $ 7,190 12 months. For international baccalaureate diploma students needs to pay US $ 9,062 for 24 months.

Students who prefers internal qualification certificate like university foundation studies or matriculation are required to pay US $ 2,810 to US $ 4,690 for 10 to 12 months.

Students who wish to improve the English language skills are offered many short and long courses from different Private Higher Education Institutions (PHEIs) of Malaysia. These institutes also offer preparatory classes for TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and IELTS (International English Language Testing System) etc. The estimated fees of these courses are charged from US $ 265 to US $ 845 for 2 to 2.5 months.

The higher education institutions of Malaysia are offered lots of bachelor's degree program in almost every field of education like arts, literature, science, medical, dentistry, medicine, veterinary science, business, finance, commerce, information technology, computer sciences etc. Bachelor's degree normally consists of 3 years. The estimated fees of bachelor's Degree Programs of public universities of Malaysia are vary from US $ 13,400 to US $ 23,400 for 3 years. However, medicine degree is charged US $ 93,750 for 5 years and pharmacy degree charged US $ 31,250 for 4 years. The fees of international universities Malaysia campus and private universities of Malaysia charged more fees than public / state universities.

Students who join the twining degree programs are allowed to complete their 1 year to 2.5 year degree from Malaysia and remaining degree from overseas university of United Kingdom or Australia etc. Students who wish to complete their first two year from Malaysia and remaining one year degree from United Kingdom or Australia need to pay first two year's fee as per Malaysia campus rule and remaining fees as per that country's education rule. Students who wish to take admission in master's degree program in Malaysia are required bachelor's degree (Hons.) or 16 year education. The merit of public universities of Malaysia is comparatively high then other universities of world. Normally students are required CGPA 3.0 for admission in master's degree. But good news is that if you have CGPA 3.7 or more you can get directly admission in doctoral degree program. The fees structure of master's degree is pretty similar to the bachelor's degree program. However, Master of Business Administration (MBA) is bit expensive than other programs. Normally private universities charged US $ 6,560 to US $ 9,375 for complete course, and public universities charged US $ 4,060 to US $ 7,810 for complete course.

The applicants of doctoral degree program are required master's degree with good grades or CGPA 3.7 in bachelor's degree program. Doctoral degree program totally consist of research work. Students need to have command on subject with complete research and an impressive thesis which should be published in national newspaper and can be protected on any public forum. A fee for PhD program is as low as US $ 845 to US $ 2,500.

Pakistani / international students who want to take admission in higher education institutions of Malaysia are required English language proficiency certificate at the time of admission, like TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and IELTS (International English Language Testing System) etc. It is compulsory for all study programs like Bachelor's Degree Program, Master's Degree Program and Doctoral Degree Program. However, students who wish to take admission in English language proficiency course are exempted to provide any language proficiency certificate. Following is the average grade requirements in proficiency tests:

  • IELTS: 6.0 Bands for all study programs.
  • TOEFL: 550 scores (PBT), 213 scores (CBT) or 79-80 scores (IBT) for all study programs.

 

Going to Malaysia for studies? Don't worry about living expenses. Malaysia is the most economical place for living including big and cosmopolitan cities like Kuala Lumpur. Every basic need is very economical as compare to European, Australian, American and most of Asian student cities. You can find every basic necessity for living on very cheap rate including accommodation, food, transportation, medicine, books, stationery, travelling, entertainment etc. An average student can live in US $ 375 per month. Cost of living depends on your living style. Some Pakistani students in Malaysia cut the cost of living in 1/3rd by sharing accommodation and food. They are even able to survive in 100US$ per month. As an international student, you are advised to spend less on living and more on to get knowledge, because your basic purpose to go Malaysia to get knowledge.

  • ACCOMMODATION

    There are different choices of residence for students in Malaysia. As student you can live in hostel, hall or residence, private room / flat / apartment or rent shared flat / apartment. The rent for these accommodations is depending on their location, size and facilities. Normally students rent furnished accommodation. This furnished accommodation costs US $ 94 to US 141 per month.

  • FOOD AND HOUSEKEEPING EXPENSES

    Food is also very cheap in Malaysia. There are lots of restaurants, cafes, fast food points, canteens are available for dine out. But dinging out is always expensive choice of eating. As a student you should prepare your meal yourself. If you cook for yourself then average cost of food would be lessor per month.

  • TRAVELLING

    If you are living in a distance from your campus then you would have to take public transport for travelling. It charges also very low fare. You may be spending US $ 13 per month for travelling in the city.

  • UTILITY BILLS

    Utility bills like telephone, mobile phone, and internet are also very affordable in Malaysia. As student you will need US $ 17 per month to pay your utility bills.

  • LAUNDRY AND CLOTHING

    You will need to spend US $ 19 for washing, ironing and dry cleaning for your dresses.

  • BOOKS AND STATIONARY

    Cost of books and stationary depends on your course. Some courses require very few books and stationary items and some requires more. And average cost may be incurred on books and stationary US $ 24 per month.

  • ENTERTAINMENT & PERSONAL EXPENSES

    It also depends on your life style. It totally depends on you that how much money you spend on your comfort and entertainment. Normally US $ 32 to US $ 64 incur on personal expenses like shaving, hair cut, outing, movies, dine out and medical etc.

Pakistani / international students can apply for scholarships. There are many scholarships granted to students. These scholarships are granted directly by universities or by Malaysian government. Some scholarships are given to students under Malaysian Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowships Plan (CSFP). If you are an intelligent student with good academic record then.

Pakistani / international students need visa to enter in Malaysia. For living in Malaysia as international student you need a student pass (student visa), which is issued to you after completing admission process. Once you get admission the higher education institute itself will apply for student pass for you. However you will have to pay fee for students pass which is charged US $ 69 to US $ 346. This depends on student's home country.

Once a student pass is issued on your name then you are asked to apply for students visa from your home country. Embassy of Malaysia can be demand following document for issuing student visa:

 

  • Original and photocopy of passport (6 month validity of passport is required).
  • Original and photocopy of student pass.
  • Admission confirmation letter of university.
  • Financial proof / Bank statement (with sufficient funds to pay fee + living expenses)
  • Medical fitness certificate.
  • Passport size photographs
