About the Research
The PhD study focuses on Laser Plasma Acceleration (LPA), a cutting-edge technique for accelerating electrons to high energy over extremely small distances using ultra-intense femtosecond laser pulses.
You will be working on:
- Creating a high-powered femtosecond laser system (100 TW class)
- Creating laser-driven plasma sources.
- Designing experiments for GeV-scale electron beam acceleration.
- Diagnosing, evaluating, and reporting experimental findings
This research will help to design compact, high-performance accelerators that could be employed in future facilities such as PETRA IV and medical imaging systems.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must possess:
- Completed a Master's degree in physics, optics, photonics, or a related field.
- Proven laboratory experience using high-power laser systems
- Knowledge of scientific programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or C++).
- Experience with optical design tools such as Zemax or LightTools (recommended).
- Good at communicating in English (knowing German is a plus).
Application Submission
You need to make sure to submit your application by July 21, 2025. That’s the final deadline, so don’t wait too long!
