About the NOMIS Fellowship
This fellowship, created in conjunction with the NOMIS Foundation, encourages cutting-edge research on how images serve as models or paradigms in science, art, culture, and society. The program, held at the world-renowned eikones Center, provides academics with a platform to conduct independent projects that cross disciplines such as visual studies, history, medicine, cognitive science, art history, and media theory.
The fellowship is suited for scholars who work on issues such as:
- Visual representation in scientific study and imaging.
- Symbols and stereotypes in political or social contexts.
- Artistic iconography, style, and visual canon creation.
- Computational and cognitive methods to image analysis

Eligibility Criteria
The NOMIS Fellowship is accessible to applicants of any nationality, including Pakistani researchers, who meet the following conditions:
- Must have a PhD degree.
- Must have published, either:
- A monograph (e.g., dissertation),
- Three peer-reviewed journal papers or book chapters
- Must submit a research project proposal focused on the topic of images as models.
- Applications should be prepared in English or German.
- Willingness to stay in Basel, Switzerland, for the duration of the fellowship.
