Best Tips on How to Find Place to Live Abroad

When moving to another country, your first obstacle is to find a place to live. You should start this hunt as soon as possible unless you want to spend your nights lying in a foreign street among creepy goons. It’s a dangerous life to live on streets, we don’t that to happen to you. So, here I have wrote a whole article to help you avoid this problem.

On and Off Campus:

There are two major types of accommodation you can get in foreign country as a student.

On-Campus Dorms: Your first struggle should be to find a place on campus dorms. Dorms are small rooms for students by university. Not only On-Campus Dorms are cheaper but you also get live inside, save money of transportation and get your fellows right there with you. You can find all information about On-Campus dorms, from the university you get admission in. If you don’t find place in campus then you have second option as following.

Off-Campus Residence: Off-campus residence means place to live outside the campus. When you are campus, can find a shared room or full house all depends on you and your budget. Following are tips to help you with that.

Use Internet and Facebook Groups:

According to students living abroad in different countries, Internet has always been the biggest help to find a place. You just google it, many offers and advertisement near you pops up. Other than this, you should keep checking University official website. Some universities also help students to find accommodation. For example, University of Bielefeld helps students from this Flat Search page.

You use Facebook a lot just to waste your time. Here is the way when Facebook can actually be useful. There are a lot of Facebook groups for students studying abroad in different countries. Find some groups for your country and keep yourself updated. You will find a lot of useful things there for you including your accommodation.

Note Your Requirements:

When you are on hunt, first be sure what you are hunting. Write all of your requirements for the place you want to live in. Make your notes according to the needs and other things that you are comfortable with. For example, what is your budget, do you want a separate room or shared or a full house, how do you want your land lords to be, if you are a girl, you obviously won’t want your land lords to be a bunch you men.

When you have all of this sorted out, it will be easier for you to find a place in accordance with them and you will know better which of these requirements are flexible and can be compromised on. It will be easier to explain it to others that may be helping you.

Short Term Accommodation:

Of course, you would want to be settled just once on long term basis. But at first, you should get a place to live on short term basis, so, you don’t have to worry about living in streets and have a plenty of time with a cool mind to find a better long-term based place to live that suits you better.

If you get to like the short term accommodation then you can live there. You don’t want to rent a place on long term basis and later be sick of it. So, better to be careful than sorry.

Make Social Network:

Social Network is always important no matter who you are, where you are. Social Network is just making connections with people you know or meet. Keep everyone happy and be in contact with them even if you don’t like them. It’s not like you have to marry them, though, it’s your choice.

When you move in to a new country try to make as many friends as you can. They will be the one later on helping you in your every need. If you have a good social network, it will be easier to find accommodation. You can may be share a place with one of them or one of them might know, who know someone, who can help you with this. Don’t be confused just make friends and make a strong social network. It will be useful to you.

Watch Out for Frauds:

In foreign countries, you will find people who just wait for the innocent students like you and me to move in to their country. Being a new resident of course you won’t know much about that place. So, you are an easy target to be coned.

When looking for a place, be sure to see everyone like they want to con you and be careful. First research about the place you are going to live in, research about the landlords and the agent (if any) helping you get the place. That is why I told you first try a place on short-term basis. If they want you to pay in advance, be careful with that and if you do pay in advance, make sure you have it on legally prepared paper. Don’t sign anything without reading it and if you understand something, read it again and again. Be sure what you are getting yourself into. You know the things Mom and Dad or guardian always tell you to do like not to eat from a stranger, follow them! And you will be safe.
