What the Fellowship Covers
Here's what you'll get:
- A monthly stipend of ¥362,000, which isn’t taxed.
- A one-time settling-in allowance of ¥200,000.
- Round-trip flight to Japan.
- Overseas health insurance.
- Research grants to help with expenses for joint projects, set up by your Japanese host.
Eligibility Criteria
- Got Ph.D. less than 6 years ago in a country that's not Japan.
- Planning to finish my Ph.D. in the next 2 years, and it's also outside Japan.
- Have been involved in research at a place in an ASEAN country for at least three years.
- If you've already taken part in the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research in Japan, such as the Standard, Short-term PE, Short-term PA, or Pathway to University positions, you can’t apply again. Also, you can only receive the Short-term PA Fellowship one time.
- Japanese citizens who are permanent residents of eligible countries can’t apply either.
- Researchers who have taken maternity or parental leave might have that time taken off from their research experience.
