This fully funded program lets scholars from all over the world do research in one of the coolest tech hubs out there.
About the Fellowship
The MIF Fellowship is all about promoting global understanding and helping humanity grow peacefully. Since it started in 1980, the foundation has backed more than 900 researchers from around the world, building a lively international academic community.
For the 2026 program, researchers can spend six months in Japan, working from June 2026 to March 2027.

Who Can Apply?
To apply, you need to:
- Be a non-Japanese national
- Have a Ph.D.
- Be 45 years old or younger
- Show that you can speak English or Japanese well enough
- Be working in your home country and promise to go back after the fellowship
- Receive an offer letter from a host university of Japan.

Fellowship Coverage – What’s included?
This fellowship covers everything you need:
- A monthly living allowance is JPY 220,000.
