Tarbell AI Journalism Fellowship 2025 | Grants & Benefits for Journalists

As AI gets more advanced, the tech and those working on it matter even more. We think journalism is key to helping people understand AI and keeping companies and policymakers in check. Tarbell offers grants between $1,000 and $15,000 for original reporting in well-known outlets, whether from freelancers or staff. While we mainly focus on written pieces, we also support other formats.

We want to support stories that focus on the future, showing how today's tech advancements and policy decisions will impact AI. As AI systems become more capable, their impact on society is just starting to unfold. In-depth reporting can help clarify what’s coming next.

Program Details

Eligibility Criteria

• Freelance Journalists: Independent writers covering AI stories. 
• Staff Writers/Editors/Producers: Reporters working for established media organizations. 
• Global Applicants: Journalists from anywhere are invited to apply. 

A background in AI or tech reporting helps, but it’s not required. Tarbell wants different viewpoints and encourages journalists with diverse experiences to apply.
