The VC’s for 13 – Public universities of Pakistan to be appointed By December: Higher Education Minister Punjab

Punjab Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Hamayun told about appointments to the press while he was attending international conference in Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) on Friday. He said that his team was putting a criterion in order for merit upon which the new VC’s would be appointed before the previous VC’s evacuate their seats. The process of selection will be done in expedite manner, he asserted.

The stringent policy making of VC’s appointment has come under process after a series of probe happening against previous VC’s of Sargodha University and Punjab University. The higher education departments of Punjab, Sindh and KPK seem quite actively focusing on weaknesses present in their current system. Media is playing a vital role in pin pointing the disfigured educational system.

And why wouldn’t it be a matter of concern? The future of millions of Pakistani students is dependent on the progression of educational system of Pakistan. CJP and Provincial Govt’s have been taking passive steps ever since the complains of systemic deformities in Varsities emerged. The Vice- Chancellor of a University is an integral administrative officer of University, his/hers role carries out the most important policies of University.

Some of the important duties assigned to VC are: To assemble meetings of the Senate, the Syndicate and the Academic Council, the power to make appointments, to visit colleges and other institutions affiliated to the University, to secure the funds of university and manage the expenditures, has power to renew, revise the academic courses and administrative laws of a University. The role of a VC in the University is not less to that of a Prime Minister in a country. His honesty and dishonesty directly affects the entire system.
