UK Government Allocates £50 Million To Support Foreign Students Affected By Covid-19

The government of the UK allocates special funds to support foreign students who are suffering from financial difficulties because of the Covid-19. The Universities Minister recently announced that to bring students in relaxation from the traumatic situation of the Covid-19 thousands of students will be benefited with a fund of £50 Million. However, this announcement has done in addition to the £20 Million that was decided in December 2020. So a total of £70 Million has been allocated for this financial year.

 

How Students Will Be Facilitated?

The announcement of this additional fund means that students will be facilitated who are suffering from the additional costs for alternative accommodation, employment losses, and extra costs to access the online classes. The UK Universities are ready to distribute funding and those who are really in need of this will be prioritized. The funding or support is decided because the majority of the students have been asked to continue their higher education remotely to contain the transmission of the disease.

The announcement has been done because many universities and accommodation providers are ready to offer rent rebates to students who are required to stay away from their term-time address. However, the government has also encouraged others to join them to facilitate students as much as possible.

 

Universities Minister Michelle Donelan Remarks

The current situation is bringing students into an incredibly difficult and challenging time. He said that he is hugely grateful to all the institutes and their staff who are working hard to prioritize students’ health, wellbeing and offering continuous learning and teaching during this pandemic situation. The funding program we have announced will help students, to continue their studies, who are struggling financially because of this pandemic. We are working to return a full education as soon as possible. The minister said that they are working along with the universities and professional bodies to ensure the graduation of students according to the prescribed plans.

The government will continue monitoring the situation and the funding impacts. Students who are suffering from financial hardships are advised by the government to contact directly their higher education provider or universities to provide them potential benefits if they are facing financial difficulties related to the Covid-19.
