Admission requirements in Romanian universities generally follow the same criterion as of other European countries. Different universities, however, have different admission strategies as well as academic calendar. The details about the international admissions in Romanian universities are mentioned at the university’s official website. It also depends upon the course and level of degree selected.

 

Admission Requirement and Intakes in Romanian Universities 2024

The following is a general summary of Admission requirements and intakes at Romanian universities. Roman education system follows Bologna process, therefore most of the terms and conditions are acquired from Bologna system

 

The Academic Calendar

The academic year for undergraduate and most of the graduate courses generally starts in October and runs till June. The whole year is divided into two semesters of around 14 weeks each. According to a set National standards total, a class time per week is 24 to 28 hours.

The Autumn Semester begins in October and usually ends in mid-February, after the winter exams.

The Spring Semester starts in mid-February or at the beginning of March. It generally ends in July, but the schedule varies from university to university and also depends upon the course selected.

Some universities accept online applications while few of them ask for personal appearance. Certain universities also conduct online or in –person interview with the candidate

Student evaluation are done indifferent ways like written examinations, oral examinations, evaluation of the student's activity during the whole semester, both via practical disciplines, and individual or collective essays and projects submissions.

 

Admission Requirements for Bachelor’s and Master’s Program 2024 in Romania Universities 

 

Application and Acceptance Letter

The Admission requirement first starts with the application procedure. The prospective student primarily applies at a Romanian university. The Romanian universities will check the eligibility of the study abroad student through their set criterion and then respond back to the applicant regarding the further process. The institute might charge some application fee to process the application. Once the student is assessed at every admission requirement along with the funding formalities, the university then sends an acceptance letter to the applicant

 

The Non-EU Applicants

Similar to other European countries, Romania also has set different criteria for different nations. The admissions for EU citizens are quite flexible and easy, however, there are certain limitations for Non-EU applicants, and therefore, it is better to check the minimum academic requirements for each country.

 

Documents Required for Bachelor’s and Master’s Admission in Romania Universities 2024 Intake

  • Application form

  • Consent for processing student’s personal data

  • Candidate’s contact  like address, phone number, e-mail address

  • High school diploma – certified copy, the documents have to be endorsed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and the Romanian Embassy in their homeland both in the original language as well as in Romanian, English or French and legalized at a public notary.

  • Bachelor diploma (only for applications regarding Master programs). The documents have to be endorsed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and the Romanian Embassy in their homeland. The diploma is required both in the original language. However, translations in Romanian, English or French legalized at a public notary is required if the original document is written in any other language.

  • Transcript of previous studies with certified translations at a public notary in Romanian, English or French if the original is not documented in one of these languages

  • For programs offered in English/French language, an international language proficiency certificate (TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge) is needed  with passing marks of at least B2 level or equivalent

  • Candidates who can prove that the official language of their country is also English or French and that they have studied at least 4 years in this language are exempted from this requirement.

  • For study programs taught in the Romanian language, the candidates must submit a certificate attesting his/her Romanian proficiency certificate or he/she should submit certificates proving that the applicants have had at least 4 consecutive years of studies in Romania.

  • If this is not the case, the students have to attend a preparatory year of Romanian language course photocopy with the authenticated translation of the birth certificate

  • Photocopy of the valid passport;

  • Photocopy of the National Identity Card

  • Medical certificate (translated in English or French confirming that the applicant does not suffer from any contagious diseases.

  • Passport size photographs

  • Proof of financial means (at least 2,000 Euros in your bank account

  • References from your professors

  • A personal statement that why the student wants to join the program

  • Sometimes a CV is also required for admission in some professional courses

The University will process your application and will send it to the Ministry of National Education for further evaluation. It may take about a month to get a response from the Ministry of National Education. Upon receiving the response the Romanian Universities will release the results. If the admission is accepted, the university will send a letter of acceptance and guide the student about further processing.

Romania Study Visa

Based on the Acceptance Letter and payments of the required charges the applicant will then apply for a study visa at the Romanian Embassy in their country or the closest Romanian diplomatic mission. Sometimes the university itself takes the responsibility of visa formalities,

When the study visa is approved and issued to the enrolled student, he/she then fly to Romania and carries out further enrollment procedures. The student has to personally appear at the Enrollment at the Office for International Relations and Foreign Students for registration.

  • Fees Receipt as a proof of payment

  • Original school certificate

  • Valid Passport

  • Study visa

  • Photocopy of birth certificate, translated and officially endorsed

  • Translated health certificate in Romanian, French or English

Intake in PhD Programs in Romania Uniersities 2024

Doctor of Philosophy is a doctorate degree awarded by a university to the student who has met all necessary qualifications and can now be considered a doctor in his/ her academic field. Romanian universities offer doctorate degrees in almost every discipline. A general admission criterion as follows with the required documents

  • Sometimes a CV is also required for admission in some professional courses

  • Approval of the prospective supervisor/coordinator of the thesis. The list of potential coordinators is present at the website of every Doctoral Schools.

The PhD course is conducted under the terms and conditions of Bologna Process. It is mandatory to apply before the given deadlines otherwise your application is rejected

The above mentioned criteria are given for full-degree program, however, Erasmus students, exchange students or language course student have to follow the required policies which are stated at the website of the Romanian institutes. Students who have taken admission via scholarship programs have to submit the relevant documents in any level of degree course admission
