Germany offers very affordable degree programmes, and living cost in Germany is not prohibitively high Germany, in addition to being a very budget-friendly country, offers numerous scholarship opportunities to international students. Top Scholarships to Study in Germany

DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) also known as The German Academic Exchange Service is considered to be the most prestigious scholarship programme in the world. DAAD is a joint organization of Germany’s higher educational institutions and provide scholarships to international students at Postgraduate and Doctoral levels. This scholarship is awarded for 1 to 3 years depending entirely upon which program you have selected to study.

To Postgraduate students a monthly payment of around 850€ is provided, whereas it is 1,200€ monthly for Doctoral students. DAAD scholarships are not influenced by any political or diplomatic agenda. Applicants must have completed their Bachelor's degree and have at least two years of work experience in order to qualify for DAAD scholarships.

 

  • Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Scholarships

These scholarships are available to both German and international students. The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Scholarships are provided to students who want to pursue a Bachelors’, Masters’ and PhD degree. For students in the field of social sciences, politics, or humanities this program can be a good option because the foundation prioritizes the students who are committed to socio-political goals. This program particularly supports those students who come from a humble background.

Students are provided €744 per month for tuition costs whereas an additional flat-rate study fee of €300 euros is also provided every month. Health insurance and long term care insurance of €71 and €15 respectively, is also provided.

The applicants who have previously been enrolled at any university of Germany in the past cannot apply for this scholarship. Applicants must exhibit above average academic achievements. Applicants are required to demonstrate sufficient German language skills. Applicant must also have the certificate of enrollment at a state or state-recognized German university for the course they want to be funded for.

 

  • Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Scholarships for International Students

These scholarships are offered to highly qualified international students who want to pursue a Master’s or PhD degree in Germany. Students all over the world can apply for this scholarship program but priority is given to female students, people with different disabilities, those who come from a humble background and also to students of migrant background.

Students can pursue a Masters’ or PhD degree in any subject except for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary medicine. The requirements for this scholarship are as following,

  • German language proficiency 

  • Masters’ students must be enrolled at a state or state recognized German University. PhD students must be accepted at any German university.

 

  • DAAD Helmut-Schmidt Masters Scholarships for Public Policy and Good Governance

The DAAD Helmut-Schmidt Masters Scholarships for Public Policy and Good Governance programme is offered to graduates coming from developing countries. Through this programme students can get a chance to obtain a Master’s degree in subjects that are of relevance for the social, political and economic development of their home country from universities of Germany.

The scholarships is offered for specific Master courses at these German Universities,

  • Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, MA Analysis and Design of Social Protection Systems

  • University of Duisburg-Essen, MA Development and Governance

  • Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt, Master of Public Policy

  • Universität Magdeburg, Peace and Conflict Studies (MA)

  • Hochschule Osnabrück, Management in Non-Profit Organisations

  • Universität Passau, Development Studies (MA)

  • University of Passau, Master of Governance and Public Policy

  • University of Potsdam, Master of Public Management (MPM)

Tuition fees will be waived for students who are enrolled in the DAAD Helmut-Schmidt Scholarship scheme. Students must have a higher educational degree with above-average grades, German language proficiency, and work experience or proof of internship is required to be qualified for this scholarship.
