The British Council and Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission (HEC) have officially launched Phase II of the Pak-UK Education Gateway, a transformative initiative aimed at strengthening higher education collaboration between Pakistan and the United Kingdom. With a robust £10 million investment, this program is set to empower Pakistani students, researchers, and universities, driving academic excellence, innovation, and global partnerships.
This next phase builds on the successes of the first stage, offering expanded opportunities for scholarships, research funding, leadership development, and entrepreneurial initiatives. It reflects Pakistan’s commitment to creating a world-class higher education ecosystem and enhancing the country’s position on the global academic map.
Phase II of the Pak-UK Education Gateway is designed to provide Pakistani students and academics with access to world-class educational opportunities. Through funded scholarships, joint research projects, and faculty exchange programs, participants can collaborate with UK institutions to tackle pressing global challenges, including climate change, technological innovation, and sustainable development.
The program also prioritizes inclusive education, supporting students with disabilities and promoting women in leadership roles in universities. By fostering diversity and inclusion, the Gateway ensures that opportunities are accessible to all talented individuals, strengthening Pakistan’s higher education sector from within.

A key feature of Phase II is the Start-Up Challenge Fund, which encourages students and researchers to transform innovative ideas into real-world businesses. This initiative bridges the gap between academia and industry, fostering entrepreneurship, job creation, and technological growth in Pakistan.
Furthermore, the program expands transnational education opportunities, allowing students to enroll in UK-accredited programs locally and ensuring mutual recognition of degrees. This enhances global mobility and career prospects for Pakistani graduates, opening doors to international employment and higher education pathways.
The first phase of the Pak-UK Education Gateway delivered remarkable results:
Phase II aims to double these achievements, reaching more universities, researchers, and students across Pakistan while strengthening academic collaboration with UK institutions.
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott CMG OBE highlighted that education is a cornerstone of growth and innovation, while Federal Minister for Education Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and nurturing talent in Pakistan.
For Pakistani students, academics, and universities, the launch of Phase II of the Pak-UK Education Gateway means:
By combining innovation, research, and inclusive leadership, this initiative positions Pakistan as a regional hub for higher education excellence and global academic collaboration.
