Studying in Australia as an international student is a great opportunity, and many universities in Australia welcome students from around the world. To study in Australia, you will need to meet certain language requirements, as English is the primary language of instruction in Australian universities.

When registering for the TOEFL iBT, you had the option to select Australia as one of the destination countries. But now Australian government has changed the rules and stated that “From 26 July 2023 TOEFL iBT will no longer be offering English language tests for Australian visa purposes until further notice.”

Acceptable English Language Tests To Study In Australia 2023

The English language examinations required for visa applications in Australia have been modified by the Australian Department of Home Affairs. According to a government statement, "TOEFL iBT will no longer be offering English language tests for Australian visa purposes until further notice." The notification was published on the Department of Home Affairs of Australia's official website and its implementation has been started from today. ETS the official registration site also notified the students about this update as shown in following image.

From 27^th July 2023, following English language proficiency tests will generally be accepted by Australian embassy (government) from international students applying to study in Australia:

• International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

• Pearson Test of English (PTE)

• Cambridge English (CAE) (also known as C1 Advanced)

• Occupational English Test (OET), noting this is a test developed for health professionals
