  • If the duration of your study program in minimum 6 months and leads to a degree, diploma or certificate.

  • If your study programs has started.

  • If you have a valid student permit, that indicates that you’re allowed to work on- or off-campus.

  • If you have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN), a 9 digit number that government of Canada assigns to every student.

Allowed Working Hours In Canada 

The government of Canada allows international students to work only for 20 hours per week. It doesn’t matter whether they are working on-campus or off-campus. But the candidates must be enrolled in a full-time study program, not be on an authorized leave and must have a valid student permit. You can work full-time in Canada during your semester breaks or holidays. You have to take permission from your university to join the job, and you may also have to follow additional conditions if your university applies them. Working more than 20 hours per week violates a student’s study permit conditions. You can lose your status as a student for this and you may not be approved for a study or work permit in future.

International students enrolled in programs that are part of a curriculum licensing arrangement (where a private college has been permitted to offer the curriculum of an associated public college) will no longer be eligible for post-graduation work permits as of September 1, 2024. 

 

If you are an international student who has recently graduated from a Canadian educational institution, you may be eligible to work temporarily in Canada after graduation. Working in Canada after graduation can be a great opportunity to gain valuable work experience and to explore the country. However, it is important to be aware of the requirements and restrictions that apply to the PGWP, and to ensure that you comply with all immigration regulations while you are in Canada.

Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP)

The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) is a permit that allows eligible international students to work in Canada temporarily after they have completed their studies. Students can gain valuable work experience through this permit and it may also help you in becoming permanent citizen of Canada.

Who Are Eligible For PGWP 

To be eligible for a post-graduate work permit:

  • You must have completed a program of study at a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada. You can prove it by providing your degree, diploma or certificate.

  • You may also have to provide an official letter from your university and a copy of your transcript from your university’s website.

  • And have graduated from a program that was at least 8 months long.

  • You must also have a valid study permit when you apply for the PGWP. If your study permit gets expired before applying for the PGWP, you can apply for it from outside the Canada.

  • And you must apply within 180 days of receiving your final marks or graduation degree.

  • If you got a scholarship to study in Canada, you’re still eligible to apply for a PGWP.

  • Mark sure that your passport will be valid during the whole PGWP process if you are applying from inside Canada.

  • If you are applying for a work field that requires your medical exam, you must provide a medical exam certificate taken at most 90 days before applying for the PGWP.

How to Apply For PGWP In Canada 

Candidates can apply through 2 methods online and through paper. Applying online is the easiest; apply on paper only if you think you might need to extend your PGWP later.

  • First of all you have to sign in to your IRCC account, if don’t have one you can sign up through 2 ways; Registering with a GC Key (easy and beneficial) and Registering with a sign-in partner (you must need a Canadian bank account for it.)

  • We advise you to register through a GC Key.

  • After setting up your account, fill out the form for “Post-graduate Work Permit” 

  • Provide the scanned copies all required documents.

  • Read all the terms and conditions carefully.

  • If you currently doesn’t have the required documents, you can save your application and continue it when you got your documents ready.

  • Submit the Post-graduate Work permit fee through a valid credit or debit card. Be sure to pay both the work permit fee and the open work permit holder fee.

  • After that you can successfully submit your PGWP application.

  • Check your application status daily.

Application Fee Of PGWP

The PGWP (Post-Graduation Work Permit) is a type of work permit that allows international students who have graduated from a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada to work in Canada for a certain period of time after completing their studies. International students who apply for the PGWP must pay a processing fee for their application. The processing fee for a PGWP application is $255 CAN. If a candidate losses his students status before applying for the PGWP, then he can apply for the restoration of student status and PGWP at the same time. The processing fee for restoration of student status and PGWP combined will be $605 CAN.

PGWP Processing time

The processing time for your Post-graduate Work Permit varies depending upon the fact how you applied. If you submit an online PGWP application then it might take 140 days to complete your PGWP process. And if have apply through a paper application then IRCC will take almost 14 days to process your application.

PGWP Validity In Canada 

The validity of PGWP depends upon the duration of your academic programs also on the expiry date of your passport. PGWP validity will not be more than the expiration of the passport. That’s why make sure that your passport has enough validity to help you gain a PGWP with more validity. The minimum length of the program can be 8 months to apply for the PGWP and the maximum validity of PGWP a candidate can get after graduation is 3 years.
