Admission to UK universities can be highly competitive, and the process can vary depending on the university and program you are applying to.

UK University Entry Requirements

Depending on the sort of study program you are looking for, your academic standing, your country of citizenship, and the university you are applying to, there are different entry criteria for UK universities. This is mainly because universities can set entry requirements based on internal policies. Here is a list of general UK university entry requirements 

Entry Requirements 


Qualification and Grades 

  • A levels: With 70% passing marks

  • Intermediate with at least 60% marks 

Entrance test 

Most UK universities apply entrance tests (SAT, GMAT or GRE) to filter out the best candidates from all applicants

Language proficiency requirement 

  • IELTS: 6.0 - 7.0

  • TOEFL: 90 - 100 


  • Copy of passport

  • 2 recent photographs

  • Latest degree certificate

  • English proficiency test certificate

  • Personal statement

  • Recommendation letters (2)s

  • Bank statement

  • Visa

  • CV


Some universities, not all, may be interested to know more about the applicant’s goals, so be prepare for interview 

Additional entry requirements 

Some universities may ask for police clearance, health or income certificate 

Application Process To UK Universities

UCAS accepts applications from international students only for undergraduate degree programs. For postgraduate applications, students have to apply directly to the university. Here are complete steps mentioned to follow for undergraduate admissions in UK universities through UCAS

How To Apply For Undergraduate Program In UK

UCAS is the official website used for UK University’s admission. Though students can also apply direct to the UK University for undergraduate degree programs.

Register With UCAS

  • By completing registration questions, complete your registration at UCAS hub by

  • Confirming the year you want to start undergraduate degree

  • After that you will get access to dashboard

  • Click on the button “Your Application” and start it

Complete Personal Details

  • Must complete all the questions asked by the admission portal

  • They ask for funding plans

Add Education Details

  • Add all the qualification from matric to onward

  • Add grades and results accurately

Complete Job History

  • If having some paid jobs done by you, add its detail with the duration

Choose Course To Study In UK

  • You can apply for up to five courses, available for selection at UCAS site. There is no preferred ranking, and your colleges or universities won't know where else you've applied until you have responded to any offers.

Agree a Declaration

  • Once you've finished, your entire application will be shown to you; make sure to check it over and make any necessary changes. You will have to read and sign a statement declaring that you are agree with terms and conditions. 

Get a reference

Pay the application fee

  • For the academic year 2024, UCAS application fee for a single and multiple choice is £22.50 and £27. You can pay application fee online through your ATM card.

Note: Do not apply more than once in single application cycle, doing so will lead to cancellation of your application.

How To Apply For Postgraduate Degree Programs In UK

International students have to submit an online application direct to the university to pursue their master’s or PhD degree program. Follow the described process when going for direct admission application

  • Visit the university of choice

  • Find course of interest offer by the university

  • Fulfill the requirements for that course

  • Arrange all required documents

  • Put the information correctly

  • Upload documents and submit application to the university

Note: Some of the UK universities may charge an application fee.

There are four application deadlines throughout the year 


  • For all the courses offered by University of Cambridge and University of Oxford

  • For medicine, veterinary medicine/ Science and dentistry courses 

15th January 

  • On time deadline for undergraduate courses at UCAS 


  • For some arts and design courses 

30th June 

  • Deadline for late applications
